Down’s Syndrome
(By Time for Truth, A CatholicDaily.com Blog) – Approximately 90% of Down’s Syndrome baby’s lives end in abortion these days. We live in a culture of too many choices, and abortion of these little blessings happens most of the time. People with Down’s Syndrome have an innocence that makes their families love more, and become closer to God. God meant for them to be here with us, not be destroyed when diagnosed. They too have a purpose to serve, and this is a culture of death that we live in. The persuasion to end the life is so selfish…”if it is not what we expected, then there is no quality of life, it’s not fair to make them live this way.” No one “made” them live life this way, God had a purpose for that person to bring love into this world. Down’s people notice the simple things in life that we go on ignoring; going about our busy days not noticing the sweet simple things that God has given to us to enjoy.
When I was pregnant with all of my children, the doctors prompted me for these tests and I refused each time. I thought, whatever my baby is like I will accept them, I did not want a test and then be persuaded to end the pregnancy because that is what happens most of the time. I felt initially that this test was not good for the most part. What is the difference either way I have to care for a new life, and if the baby did have Down’s I would adjust after birth. And FYI; the persuasion for this testing I think was subtle yet it gets into the mind in a certain way “Are you sure…are you sure…are you sure…?” “You could just have the test, it wouldn’t hurt anything.” In fact you almost feel guilty saying no to the test. Well maybe it could also cause problems with the pregnacy if done incorrectly…
How many people change their mind when they find out they do have a baby with Down’s? The answer is about 90%, because now the joy is saddened “How will we ever deal with this?” Let me reiterate the pressure is subtle, but has a beginning and an end.
Any abortion is a smooth talking devil moving in on a painful situation. Encouragement that this “solution” will make it all better so it the individual will no longer be in the situation anymore. Not elaborating on the aftermath and psychological problems, the emotional trauma that goes on after the abortion.
If you go forward with the testing, be prepared to be strong if the results were not what you expected and prepare to accept and embrace this, because these people truly are full of love, and will bring you happiness. Embrace the life God has given to you to take care and grow in love and to serve God in this way will please Him.
