Catholic & Pro-life Website Attacked by “Saudi Arabia Hackers”

NAPLES, FL –  Indie-Catholic news site, MariaNews.com was hacked early on Tuesday by a group calling themselves “Saudi Arabia Hackers.”

The attack successfully brought down the MariaNews.com homepage and blocked access to other pages within Maria News site.     A hacker identified as “Brkod” replaced the Maria News homepage with a black background, some hacker lingo and a rather strange looking picture.

A Google search for ‘Saudi Arabia Hackers’ reveled that they also claimed responsibility for “paralyzing” the websites of Israel’s stock exchange in January of 2012.  (see the USA Today story here)

MariaNews.com was launched by Royce Hood during his second year of attending Ave Maria School of Law.    ”First and foremost we are a pro-life website,” said Royce Hood.  ”It’s either an insult or a compliment that they would target us.”

MariaNews.com was down for approximately 2 hours until Royce discovered the attack.     “At this point I’m looking at the attack as a complement,” said Royce.  ”The more you do right the more attack you will receive.  All we can do is pray for these people.”

So why would anyone want to hack or take down Maria News?  Could it be the mission?    MariaNews.com is pro-life and dedicated to the promotion of news from the Catholic prospective.    Perhaps the hackers were just bored or perhaps they deliberately attacked because of the social mission.     Maybe we’ll never know.
