The Muppets: Here Today, Gonzo Tomorrow – No longer support Chick-Fil-A

WASHINGTON D.C. (Family Research Council) – It turns out the Muppets really are puppets for the Left! Apparently, liberals are so desperate for support in the war on Chick-Fil-A that they’ve enlisted some imaginary friends. In a surprise move, the Jim Henson Company announced that it would punish little children for Chick-Fil-A’s convictions and break off the companies’ partnership. From now on, kids’ meals from Chick-Fil-A will no longer feature Muppet toys. Lisa Henson, Jim’s daughter and now corporate CEO, said her company celebrates “diversity and inclusiveness” (except, apparently, when it comes to personal opinions) and, in a parting blow, vowed to donate their Chick-Fil-A payment to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

Not once did Chick-Fil-A’s Dan Cathy say that he is changing how they serve or who they serve. In fact, he couldn’t have been more respectful in affirming that the chain would continue its tradition of “treating every person with honor, dignity, and respect–regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation, or gender.” All Chick-Fil-A did was refuse to be strong-armed by the politically correct crowd. Now, in a gross overreaction, everyone from the Mayor of Boston to Miss Piggy is refusing to practice the same tolerance they preach.

What happened to the nation of competing ideas and free expression? These days, liberals are so terrified of trying to defend their position that they’re trying to silence everyone else’s. That’s un-American. (It’s also bad business. If the Muppets want to reach children, maybe they should stop alienating the families that produce them!) Until then, it’s their loss. Chick-Fil-A already has plenty of character–they don’t need Jim Henson’s!
