The university has not understood its Catholic and Pontifical duties. It has turned its back on the Catholic and Magisterial light, sadly necessitating what is an unprecedented move in the history of the Church. Though long in coming, it shows that Pope Benedict XVI has teeth.

The 48 year old Fr. Joseph Yue Fusheng was illicitly ordained bishop of Harbin north-east China on July 6th. As a result he has incurred excommunication. He is not recognized as a Bishop and holds no Episcopal authority in the Catholic Church. Moreover, the Bishops who concelebrated his ordination now must explain their actions to the Holy See.

The Holy See has acted pastorally, out of Christian love, and in keeping with its proper role to guard the deposit of faith. The National Catholic Reporter’s biased and inaccurate reporting concerning this entire matter has contributed to the secular Medias feeding frenzy and thereby contributed to placing the leaders of the Catholic Church in a bad light. That is not responsible Catholic journalism.
