Bill Donohue comments on how George Washington University (GWU) has handled the issue of students seeking to remove Father Greg Shaffer
While many people in the United States say they espouse traditional family values, very few appear to put the principles in practice. It’s estimated that one in three of children within the U.S. live without their father. These figures are especially high in the Southern states, which ordinarily take pride in being the bastion of bedrock American values.
Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the health care law. A devout Roman Catholic, Monaghan says that abortion and contraception don’t fall under health care – and in his words “Gravely immoral.”
This new translation, the editors say, will “resolve interpretive ambiguity in the Bible as it pertains to homosexuality.”
U.S. District Court Judge William Shubb made a decision just hours after a hearing on the issue, ruling that the First Amendment rights of psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health professionals who engage in “reparative” or “conversion” therapy outweigh concern that the practice poses a danger to young people.
Governor Jerry Brown Monday made California the first U.S. state to ban a form of therapy designed to change the sexual orientation of minors. Brown denounced “reparative therapy” as having “no basis in science or medicine, and they will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery,” Brown said on his Twitter feed. Signing the bill into law over the weekend, the action drew support from gay rights groups.
