A young Afghan woman has been beheaded for refusing to prostitute herself. According to officials in Afghanistan’s Herat province, the woman’s mother-in-law and mother-in-law’s cousin tried to force the woman into prostitution. When she refused, the family recruited a cousin to behead her.

The Liturgy, along with others in major cities throughout the Nation, was to “close” the “Fortnight for Freedom” called by the US Catholic Bishops. His choice as the homilist was not accidental. Nor can the critical and essential intention of this fortnight, the protection and preservation of religious freedom, actually come to an end.
