WASHINGTON –  As they try to derail Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, his challengers face an urgent task: raising enough cash to compete.

The campaign for the GOP nomination is moving into states that are more dependent on TV advertising, and nobody has yet been able to match the former Massachusetts governor’s financial operation.

Rick Santorum, riding a wave of momentum, nearly won Iowa’s Caucus in a shoestring but has no national fundraising network. Newt Gingrich vows to go after Romney in New Hampshire, but if history is any guide, he lacks the cash to do it. And Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a prolific fundraiser, still might be a threat — but the Iowa results showed his support has waned.

Romney’s campaign has spent more than $17 million since January, while Gingrich and Santorum have each spent less than one-sixth of that.

(IOWA) – Mitt Romney won the Iowa Caucus last night by the slimmest margin in history, just 8 votes!

Santorum has created a media frenzy.    A Google search for “Santorum Iowa” returns 600,000,000 results.   A Google search for “Romney Iowa” returns just 4,490,000 results.     All eyes are on Santorum!

Many voters are not familiar with Senator Santorum and the leftist media fears his conservative and pro-life ideology.  So now Santorum will face some of the same scrutiny that saw Newt Gingrich fall recently in the polls and that basically destroyed Herman Cain.

Last night both Santorum and Romney showed leadership in their speeches.

Mitt Romney spoke last and congratulated Rick Santorum on his success.    He went on to say that this, “election is bigger than jobs and the economy, it’s an election about the soul of America.”

“The Creator has endowed us with certain unalienable rights.   We are an opportunity land.  People have come from all over the world seeking a better life.   By virtue of their successes, they didn’t make us poorer, they made us better.  Obama has a different view, he wants to take from the successful to give to others. ”

Mitt Romney pledged to do as well in New Hampshire and to collect on a statement Obama made last year.     On the Today Show shortly after President Obama won he said that if, “[he] can’t get the economy turned around in 3 years [he would be] looking at one term proposition”  - “Well” said Romney, “I’m here to collect on that promise”.

Rick Santorum gave a heartfelt address to his supporters.   He started off simply saying “Game on!”

He next thanked his wife and the mother of his children.   He then gave a “public thanks” to God.     He said, “people often ask me wow have I done this….,  99 counties, 381 townhall meetings, every morning when I woke up I required the strength of another special friendship.   The daily grace that comes from God.”

Santorum also thanked the hard work of his supporters.

Notably he also said that, “when the family breaks down, the economy struggles….  When families aren’t there to instill values into their children, the neighborhood’s are not safe”  -  ”These are the basic values that America stands for.   These are the values we need if we are going to go up against Barack Obama and win”.

“God has given us this Country to allow his people to be free.   We must honor that creation.   Whether it is the sanctity of human life or the well being of the worker you have a friend in me”.

Santorum concluded by saying “we’re off to New Hampshire”.

So, who can beat Obama?

AP is reporting that “some guy is driving the remaining votes in his truck to be counted”.      Rick Santorum is currently leading Mitt Romney by just 37 votes.

Rick Perry: “I want to says thanks to the people of Iowa, these people welcomed us into their homes”.    ”People who love America, and the values that its based upon”.

Governor Rick Perry read a letter from a volunteer who pledged his support for the Governor and promised to help him win in South Carolina.

“I didn’t get into this race because I’ve always had the ambition of being President.” He went on, “I got into this race because our Country is in trouble.”

The Governor went on to say that he will return to Texas to assess the future of his campaign.   “With a little prayer and reflection”, he will make a decision as to how he moves forward, if at all.

Michelle Bachmann takes six place with just 5,786 votes in the Iowa Caucus.     Bachmann addressed supporters tonight after taking 6th place,  ”it’s the peoples voice that has been heard tonight”.        She vowed to march on and said the “pundits and the press will try to pick the nominee”, but “I prefer to the let the people decide”.

Many in the media have speculated that Michelle Bachmann might drop out if she did not do well in Iowa.   But in her speech she vowed to beat Barack Obama.

Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney along with millions of American’s are on the edge of their seats as Santorum leads by just over 120 votes.     7% of the votes our still outstanding with 93% reporting thus far.

Gingrich praised Santorum’s campaign as a “positive one” during his address to supporters.

Newt Gingrich concedes fourth place in the Iowa Caucus with over 15,000 votes.  Gingrich promised to push forward as a “true Reagan Conservative”.   Vows to reserve the right to “tell the truth” but will not result to 30 second lies or false advertisements against his opponents.

Ron Paul took third place in the Iowa Caucus with over 24,000 votes.

Currently 93% of the votes are in and Santorum has once again taken a slight lead over Romney.

Mitt Romney has managed to take a slight over Rick Santorum in the Iowa Caucus.  Both candidates currently have 25% of the vote, with Romney at 27,830 votes and Santorum at 27,817 votes.   92 % of the districts have reported.
