NAPLES – Ave Maria School of Law (AMSL) announced today details for the first-ever “Law of Life Summit” to be held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 4:00 PM.  The event will gather some of the most prominent national leaders in the American pro-life movement together for a visioning discussion focused on the coming final phase of the fight against the Roe v. Wade legalized abortion regime.  The Summit will also gather top pro-life law students from numerous law schools to closely engage with movement leaders.

“The Law of Life Summit is unlike anything else out there in the pro-life world,” said Royce Hood, AMSL 3L and organizer of the Summit.  “What is different about our concept is that we really want to focus on action.  Everyone attending the Summit understands why abortion is evil and works hard every day against it.  At the Summit we are going to get very specific as to the methods, tactics, and measures that will win these final battles in the fight against abortion.”

The Summit is strategically scheduled to occur the weekend before the March for Life and benefits from having so many pro-life leaders accessible in Washington due to the March.  However, the Summit is more a strategic planning dialogue than political demonstration.  Organizers, including Father Michael Orsi, Chaplain of Ave Maria School of Law, expect that the Summit will “lead to an ongoing and consistent aligned conversation amongst pro-life leaders, young and old, on how energies can be best directed in advance of the cause of Life”.

Director of Development for Ave Maria School of Law, John Knowles interviewed co-founder of 40 Days for Life David Bereit for the weekly show “Insider” at the law school campus in Naples, FL.

Mr. Bereit was in Florida to help raise money for Sunlight Home, a faith-based maternity residence located in Naples.

Sunlight Home was founded in June of 1994 to help break the cycle of poverty and abuse for pregnant women and teens through a Christ-centered environment.

Over 100 distinguished guests from the SW Florida community came to the law school campus for an Interfaith and Pro-Life Mixer to benefit Sunlight Home. The event raised over $3,000 with just under 3 weeks to put-it together.

During his visit Mr. Bereit also visited with the Fort Myers and Naples 40 Days for Life Campaigns.

The Fall 2011 40 Days for Life International Campaign was the largest mobilization of the pro-life movement in history. There were campaigns in over 300 cities around the world. Over 500 children were scheduled for abortions and are alive today because of this year’s 40 Days for Life Campaign.

Americans are losing faith in many institutions that not long ago were beyond reproach. Generally, the command professions, those that often provide access to influence and power in our culture, are in need of a return to the initial calling of their particular trade. I believe that the legal profession emerged in ancient times as a healing order; one whose members were called to provide aservice to their communities, especially the poor and forgotten. Few would disagree that today’s legal profession could use a reminder of the high ideals upon which it was based, and Ave Maria School of Law was founded as an engine of reform and renewal.

It is not to say that a mission-centered organization such as Ave Maria School of Law will be perfect all the time. Like any member of the Catholic Church, our law school will sometimes falter in its pursuit of good and holy works. But being a mission-centered institution, whose leaders are deeply ingrained with an understanding of the highest aspirations of Catholic Education and the great civilization that has sustained it, the Law School preservers forward towards actualization, towards her Mission, and towards the Cross.
