It is only if the principles of the universality and indivisibility of human rights and a “juridical order solidly based upon the dignity and nature of humanity, in other words, upon the natural law” are recognized that international cooperation can occur. Out of the universal and indivisible rights arising out of man’s nature, we must recognize as central the “dignity of the human person, beginning with the centrality of the right to life and to freedom of religion.”

Mike Salman was thrown in jail for holding bible studies on his land because he violated the City of Phoenix’s zoning ordinances. The criminal prosecution claimed that his property was being used as a Church and thus needed to be used according to church zoning ordinances.

What is novel about the City of Man we have ushered in is its idiosyncratic nature. It is not really a republic, or a democracy, or even a republican democracy or a democratic republic. It is an idiocracy. To have a democracy, you must have a people, a demos. To have a republic, there must be a public thing, a res publica, a common good that is being protected or promoted.

Her online announcement shocked the secular community. Atheist blogger Leah Libresco has announced on her Patheos blog that she has converted to Christianity. In her latest online post, “This is my last post for the Patheos Atheist Portal,” she explained her conversion to Catholicism. Libresco said her conversion came from her struggles with the roots of the moral law. Libresco said she inevitably arrived at an understanding that aligns with a Christ-centered world-view.

The early Roman Empire was a Culture of death. The Christian Church was called into it to transform it from within and build a Culture of life. They lived as leaven, light and salt for the world into which they were sent. “To speak in general terms, we may say that the Christian is to the world what the soul is to the body.” Our situation at the beginning of the Third Millennium is similar.

There is a “Ronald Reagan” candidate in the Republican primary. He “squares the circle”. He is morally consistent and politically courageous. His name is Rick Santorum. I have written extensively about his positions. I know him, his wife and their family – personally. I have followed him throughout this campaign. He is exactly what many people – just like me – have been hoping for. He is the “Reagan candidate” for the 2012 campaign – and much more. This man is the “real deal”, in every way.
