Gosnell Convicted of Murder on Fatima Day! Coincidence?

Maria News- Each year on May 13, Catholics from around the world venerate Our Lady of Fatima.  On May 13, 1917 three children – Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco began witnessing apparitions of the Virgin Mary.  The apparitions took place on the thirteenth day for 6 consecutive months, followed by numerous documented miracles.

On Sunday, May 13, 1917, towards noon, a flash of lightning drew the attention of the children, and they saw a brilliant figure appearing over the trees of the Cova da Iria. The “Lady” asked them to pray for the conversion of sinners and an end to World War One, and to come back every month, on the 13th.

On July 13, Mary promised that “in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”

The triumph of Mary will come when evil is destroyed forever. When this happens Christ will have judged the living and dead.

Those who have special devotions to Our Lady believe that she has been given a special grace from God to appear on earth in order to bring souls into closer union with her son, Jesus Christ.  She comes for the conversion of sinners. Because of Mary many will find (or have already found) Christ.

The world is clearly upside down. Vice is praised as virtue. Authentic virtue is discarded as being politically incorrect or worse – radical. We destroy in the womb the least among us. Our culture assaults the family, motherhood, fatherhood, brotherhood and sisterhood. Our culture is attempting to re-define the meaning of manhood and womanhood. Our world values the material with very little public acknowledgment of eternity.

Before God’s Kingdom comes there will be a battle for souls, but good will ultimetly prevail over evil. Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart will triumph. Christ will come to judge the living and the dead and the Kingdom of God will reign forever.

This brings us to Kermit Gosnell. The abortionist who delivered babies only to cut their spinal cords with scissors. Today, on May 13 a Jury in Pennsylvania has convicted Gosnell of murdering three of four babies in his capital murder trial. He is also guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 abortion death of Karnamaya Mongar, a 41 year-old who died when Gosnell’s untrained staff administered an overdose of sedatives.(1)

The connection?

The mainstream media in the US has largely ignored the Gosnell trial.  Rows of seats in the courtroom reserved for the press were empty until the day that the Defense for Gosnell gave its testimony.

Likewise, we have a sitting President in the US that supports the very same practices that Gosnell provided (i.e. partial birth and late term abortion).  Obama has never mentioned the deaths of the babies killed by Gosnell, but he did attend the annual Planned Parenthood Gala and gave them praise for their work. “You’ve … got a president who is going to be right there with you, fighting every step of the way,” the president told some 1,000 attendees at a meeting of the Planned Parenthood Federation in Washington.”

Today however the pro-life movement and all those who value the sanctity of human life can breath a little easier. Gosnell has been convicted of murder. In my opinion this is a small taste of the triumph of good over evil.  No doubt Gosnells defense lawyer will appeal the verdict. But for now the media and pro-abortion politicians alike should take note that life matters. For us Catholics with Marian devotions, we believe that the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady will triumph over evil. Today is a taste of that Triumph. Perhaps a sign to all of us that justice will prevail.

Let us all pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima for the conversion of sinners. Let us pray for the conversion of hearts for all those who support abortion, who administer abortion and who have been harmed by abortion. Finally we pray for the peace of those innocent babies who have died from abortion. In Christ’s name we pray.

Arkansas House overrides veto and passes bill that bans abortion after 12 weeks

FoxNews.com - Arkansas lawmakers overrode a veto Wednesday and gave the state the most restrictive abortion law in the country — a near-ban on the procedure from the 12th week of pregnancy onward that is certain to end up in court.

A day after the Republican-led state Senate voted to override Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe’s veto, the GOP-controlled House voted 56-33 to do the same. Only a simple majority was needed in each chamber.

The vote comes less than a week after the Legislature overrode a veto of a separate bill banning most abortions starting in the 20th week of pregnancy. That bill took effect immediately after the final override vote, whereas the 12-week ban wouldn’t take effect until this summer.

Abortion rights proponents have already said they’ll sue to block the 12-week ban from taking effect. Beebe warned lawmakers that both measures are likely to fail in court and that the state would end up wasting money defending them if they became law.

The measures’ supporters, who expected court challenges, were undaunted.

“Not the governor, nor anyone else other than the courts, can determine if something is constitutional or unconstitutional,” Rep. Bruce Westerman, a Republican from Hot Springs, said in urging his colleagues to override Beebe.

New York City schools handed out over 12,000 doses of Plan B without parental consent

LifeSiteNews.com - New York City schools distributed 12,721 doses of the “Morning-After Pill” to students last year, according to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. The 40 school-based “health centers” also performed thousands of injections of long-term contraception and implanted intrauterine devices (IUDs).

Under state law, schools do not need to obtain parental consent to dispense the drugs. The $2.7 million program has provided contraceptives to 22,400 teens as young as 14.

Last September, the district announced that the city Department of Health had distributed Plan B to 567 teenage girls, and another 580 received Reclipsen birth control. But the New York Post, which filed the FOIA request, discovered the program went far beyond what officials had previously admitted.

Live Action investigators called Planned Parenthood abortion clinics with recent cases of medical emergencies and botched abortions in 7 different states asking if Planned Parenthood’s abortion practice was safe and if women had ever been hurt at the clinics. Not a single Planned Parenthood abortion clinic acknowledged the recent injuries of women.

When a caller asks Planned Parenthood’s Birmingham, AL, abortion clinic if when women get abortions at the clinic, “They’re not in danger, they don’t get, like, injured?” Planned Parenthood responds, “No ma’am, we don’t have any type of procedure where a woman would receive an injury.” While the Birmingham Planned Parenthood clinic botched a woman’s abortion in 2010 while it was on probation from the Alabama Department of Health.

“Our investigation exposes not only how unsafe Planned Parenthood clinics can be for women, but also how dishonest and untrustworthy Planned Parenthood is to the very women it claims to defend,” says Rose. “How shameful that two months after their clinic botched an abortion that took the life of 24-year old Tonya Reaves and her pre-born baby, Planned Parenthood lies to the public and pretends nothing happened. When it comes to the lethal dangers of its billion-dollar abortion business, no lie is too audacious for Planned Parenthood.”

“Planned Parenthood continues to engage practices that hurt women and young girls, all while billing themselves as the guardians of women’s health,” says Rose. “Our investigation proves that Planned Parenthood has little regard for the safety concerns of its ‘patients’ and continues to lie and mislead the public about the dangers of abortion.”

Billboard firm blocks pro-life ad linking candidate with funding for abortion

FoxNews.com - A billboard company has blocked a national pro-life group’s latest effort to post ads linking a congressional candidate to abortion funding – in the wake of a similar 2010 effort that resulted in a defamation lawsuit.

The Susan B. Anthony List ads argue Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., supports taxpayer-funded abortions because he voted in favor of President Obama’s health care overhaul legislation.

The group two years ago contracted with the same firm, Lamar Advertising, to post similar ads against then-Rep. Steve Driehaus, an Ohio Democrat who lost his re-election race and sued the Susan B. Anthony List. Lamar declined to accept the Driehaus ads under pressure.

The group calls Driehaus’ suit “frivolous,” and it argues Lamar Advertising’s recent decision not to run the anti-Donnelly ads on its billboards raises First Amendment questions.

“This continued assault on our free speech hits at the basic freedoms groups and individuals in this country enjoy, to criticize their elected officials and to demand better representation,” said group President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Under ObamaCare, taxpayers are forced to fund abortion. Yet despite this growing consensus, the free speech of the SBA List continues to be chilled.”

DOJ Lends Support to Planned Parenthood Lawsuit in AZ

PHOENIX, AZ (Catholic Online) – In May, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law the Whole Woman’s Health Funding Priority Act (H.B. 2800), aimed at preventing the flow of taxpayer dollars to organizations, such as Planned Parenthood, that offer abortion procedures in the Grand Canyon State. In retaliation, Planned Parenthood has filed a lawsuit claiming that the state law is in violation of federal law, with regards to the money secured by the state for Medicaid. Currently, the law has been challenged in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona.

This month, the U.S. Department of Justice resurrected the Obama administration’s war on the unborn by issuing a brief in support of the lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood, just in time for election day.

H.B. 2800 was co-authored by the Susan B. Anthony List and the Alliance Defending Freedom. While the Arizona law is a plus for the pro-life movement, the bill did not forbid providing money to Planned Parenthood and other similar businesses – the bill did not forbid state-funded abortions. The law does, however, ensure that state money for healthcare goes to medical centers that offer a type of “whole” person care and are not limited to offering only certain types of health-related services. As Governor Brewer explained at its passing, the law “closes loopholes in order to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortions”.

With all the news about President Obama falsely stating that Planned Parenthood offers mammograms, it is obvious that this desperate, “We’re only down by one run” move by the DOJ is focused not on the health and well-being of women but on the promotion of the abortion and contraception movement, of which the Obama White House has successfully fixed itself as the guiding North Star.

Planned Parenthood does contribute financially to Obama’s 2012 campaign. Planned Parenthood’s president Cecile Richards herself has campaigned on behalf of President Obama. How could it be anything but natural for the current administration to fight for Planned Parenthood in the state most frequently known for challenging the Obama party? Odds are that the Department of Justice probably jumped at the chance to enter another round with Arizona.

Arizona Solicitor General David Cole is fighting the battle at the state’s capitol, insisting that it is within a state’s designated power to demand “meaningful provider qualifications” for the distribution of the healthcare money in question. Planned Parenthood, he believes, can be denied funds under that requirement.

“Arizona taxpayers have spoken through their elected representatives:  they do not want their tax dollars going to abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood,” said the president of Susan B. Anthony List, Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The Whole Woman’s Health Funding Priority Act is pro-woman legislation that recognizes that women deserve access to comprehensive health care, not abortion. Abortion is not health care.”

Right before an election, pro-lifers across America have to be the most vigilant. While the national focus is on a presidential ‘roast’, tireless leaders in the pro-life army have undoubtedly toiled away, night and day, in a rush to divert the bulldozing abortion agenda, being directed this time by our own Department of Justice.

The Mayans seemed to miscalculate the “day of reckoning” by a handful of days when they slated it for December 2012. One can’t help but be overcome by a simmering suspicion that they must have meant election day.

Obama brings up Planned Parenthood at least 3 times in Tuesdays debate

MariaNews.com –  There is not one issue that divides Americans more than abortion.    People are either for it or against it.   Some pro-lifers and even pro-choicers have attempted to create a middle ground that sounds like this “Well I don’t personally like abortion, but I don’t feel comfortable telling other people what to do.”  - The middle ground simply doesn’t work for Catholics when voting for political candidates.

During the Tuesday night debate President Obama attempted to raise the divisive issue of abortion.   On at least 3 occasions he said that Mitt Romney favors defunding Planned Parenthood.   Romney never took the bate.

If Obama wanted to raise a question about Romney position as a pro-life candidate he could have done so.  Instead, Obama tried to advance the so called “War on Women” argument by baiting Romney into the issue.    Given Obama’s debate strategy of labeling Romney a liar, it was probably smart for Romney not to tackle the issue during the debate.

For Catholics, knowingly voting for a politician who supports abortion is a moral evil.  EWTN has an excellent voters guide which explains why:

If a political candidate supported abortion, or any other moral evil, such as assisted suicide and euthanasia, for that matter, it would not be morally permissible for you to vote for that person.  This is because, in voting for such a person, you would become an accomplice in the moral evil at issue. For this reason, moral evils such as abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide are examples of a “disqualifying issue.” A disqualifying issue is one which is of such gravity and importance that it allows for no political maneuvering. It is an issue that strikes at the heart of the human person and is non-negotiable. A disqualifying issue is one of such enormity that by itself renders a candidate for office unacceptable regardless of his position on other matters. You must sacrifice your feelings on other issues because you know that you cannot participate in any way in an approval of a violent and evil violation of basic human rights. A candidate for office who supports abortion rights or any other moral evil has disqualified himself as a person that you can vote for.

If you are Catholic you really should not vote for pro-abortion candidates.   This does not mean that all democrats are bad and that all republicans are good.  However, as Catholics we should place our faith above politics.

Planned Parenthood Buys $3.5M in Anti-Romney Ads

Breitbart.com - It’s no surprise that Planned Parenthood, its president Cecile Richards, and its loyalists are out in force to re-elect Barack Obama. Mitt Romney has said he would cut off federal tax dollars to the group, while President Obama is one of the abortion giant’s most fervent allies.

Recent disclosure reports show that Planned Parenthood’s various PACs and independent expenditure organizations have already spent nearly $6 million in this election cycle to support Obama and pro-abortion champions while attacking Romney. That’s a lot of cash for a so-called non-profit that survives thanks to government funding that makes up nearly 50 percent of its annual budget.

Cecile Richards has made her goals clear. She wants Planned Parenthood to be the “largest kick-butt political organization” in the country – and, of course, she wants Obama re-elected so that her coffers continue to be filled with our tax dollars. Nearly 50 percent of Planned Parenthood’s $1 billion in annual revenues comes from you and me in the form of government funding – about $1.5 million a day in local, state, and federal tax dollars. With her trough full of government funding, Richards is free to focus on raising money to support pro-abortion candidates and attack pro-life Republicans.

House passes bill funding Planned Parenthood, Obamacare

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) – The vote passed by a wide margin of 329-91. The bill now goes to the Senate for expected approval next week.

The bill also funds the government for six months into the new fiscal year and for almost five months after the November elections. Congress turned to the stop-gap measure after failing to pass any of the 12 appropriation bills necessary to fund day-to-day government operations.

Declared unanimously as an “unjust and illegal mandate” by the bishops of the United States, the body declared the Obamacare sterilization-contraception-abortifacient regulation one that violates the right to free exercise of religion — not only of Catholic institutions, but also of Catholic business owners and workers.

The bill does not prohibit funding for either Obamacare programs or Planned Parenthood, nor does it stop the government from enforcing regulations, such as the mandate from the Health and Human Services Department that nearly all health insurance plans provide contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs free of charge.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), described the health insurance mandate as an “unambiguous attack on religious freedom in our country” and a violation of the First Amendment protecting the free exercise of religion. Boehner supports the CR along with the GOP House leadership.

The CR does prohibit the government from initiating any new programs or using the $1.047 trillion in the bill to carry out any programs or functions it was not engaged in during fiscal year 2012.

The bill prohibits grant programs that spend their allocations simultaneously block and other types of grant programs, from doing so with the money allocated in this bill.

The bill allows the government to continue executing the functions under Obamacare that it was carrying out last year and that Congress had funded. The government cannot move forward on implementing Obamacare outside of what it was doing last fiscal year.

It must be noted, that the bill does not prohibit funding of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

According to its 2009-2010 annual report, Planned Parenthood received $487.4 million in government money; Planned Parenthood also performed 329,445 abortions in 2010.
