On the Fourth of July, Archbishop Chaput delivered the closing homily before an overflow crowd gathered at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on the campus of Catholic University. The Liturgy, along with others in major cities throughout the Nation, was to “close” the “Fortnight for Freedom” called by the US Catholic Bishops. His choice as the homilist was not accidental. Nor can the critical and essential intention of this fortnight, the protection and preservation of religious freedom, actually come to an end.

One year ago today I delivered my son, a stillborn. For a moment he was placed in my arms quiet, blue, and limp. The midwife and her assistant then took him from me and began CPR. They could not find a pulse. He did not breathe. Following the orders of the on-call neonatologist they stopped working on him so they could call time of death. My little boy, James Fulton, 9lbs and 12oz, had been without a pulse for 61 minutes. Everyone stopped working. And then his heart started.
Pope Benedict XVI has approved the heroic virtues of US Archbishop Fulton Sheen, clearing the way for the advancement of his sainthood cause.
“Pope Benedict XVI has named Archbishop Augustine Di Noia, O.P., to the post of vice president of the Pontifical Commission ‘Ecclesia Dei’. The appointment of a high-ranking prelate to this position is a sign of the Holy Father’s pastoral solicitude for traditionalist Catholics in communion with the Holy See and his strong desire for the reconciliation of those traditionalist communities not in union with the See of Peter.” Archbishop Joseph Augustine DiNoia, O.P. is one of the great theologians of the Church. He is an extraordinary teacher, a holy and humble man.So, it is no wonder that the Lord keeps choosing this son of St. Dominic for such important tasks. Pray for him and his vital assignment.

In prayer we learn to see the signs of this merciful plan in the journey of the Church. Thus do we grow in the love of God, opening the door for the Blessed Trinity to come and dwell among us, bringing us light and warmth and guiding our lives. … Prayer generates men and women not animated by egoism, desire to posses and thirst for power, but by gratuitousness.
The homosexual equivalency activists who want to redefine the institution of marriage are hard at work in Australia. Two pieces of legislation have been advanced in an effort to to bring about a Cultural Revolution. The Bishops Pastoral letter deserves the full attention of our readers around the globe. The Catholic faithful of that beautiful Nation deserve our prayer and solidarity. There is an accelerating effort to make homosexual partnerships the legal equivalent of marriage in the positive law and to then use the Police Power of the State to enforce such a restructuring on the rest of civil society.
Pope Benedict’s tireless effort to heal a rift within the Church which began 24 years ago – and finally end the division between the SSPX and Rome – is one more sign that his paternal heart beats with the desire for unity revealed in the Sacred Heart of Jesus
