American pro-life leaders offer encouragement to Canadian March for Life

LifeSiteNews.com – A number of American pro-life leaders traveled north of the border for Canada’s March for Life on Thursday, where they addressed the crowd and encouraged them in their fight to protect the unborn.

“The beautiful thing about fighting for human dignity is that it knows no geographic boundaries,” said Ryan Bomberger of Virginia Beach, founder of the Radiance Foundation. “We can be united all across this globe for a fight to protect human life from conception to natural death.”

Bomberger showed his familiarity with Canadian history by referencing Dr. Henry Morgentaler, the godfather of legalized abortion in that nation, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. The doctor’s illegal abortion activism resulted in the Supreme Court decision 25 years ago that struck down all restrictions on abortion in Canada.

“Dr. Morgentaler, the Jewish Holocaust survivor, is celebrated by some here in Canada,” Bomberger said. “How does one go from being crushed by inhuman oppression to crushing humans and being the oppressor? This is something I can’t wrap my mind around.”

“Every life is precious,” he said. “Black, white, brown, young, old, disabled, ‘differently abled,’ Down [Syndrome], quadrapalegic, deaf, girls, boys, born, and – thank God – the unborn.”

The international focus of the 2013 march naturally complemented this year’s theme, “End Female Gendercide: ‘It’s a Girl’ Should Not be a Death Sentence.”

Reggie Littlejohn, one of the foremost experts on China’s one-child policy, keynoted the event on Parliament Hill.

Her Women’s Rights Without Frontiers (WRWF) opposes “forced abortion and sex-selective abortion in China,” she told the crowd of 25,000.

Janet Morana of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, spoke alongside the founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in Canada, Angelina Steenstra. The Canadian group is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

David Bereit of 40 Days for Life offered two workshops at the March for Life Youth Conference on Friday. Bombarger and Littlejohn addressed the March for Life Youth Conference on Friday afternoon, as well.

National Memorial for the Pre-Born and their Mothers and Fathers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — At the national interdenominational pro-life prayer service to be held on the 40th memorial of Roe vs. Wade, the National Pro-Life Religious Council (NPRC) will present its Pro-life Recognition Award to two outstanding pro-life warriors, Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, and Michael Schwartz, longtime pro-life leader and strategist.

They will receive the awards on Friday, January 25 during the 19th annual National Memorial for the Pre-born and Their Mothers and Fathers, to be held in DAR Constitution Hall from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Father Frank Pavone, President of NPRC and National Director of Priests for Life, said the awards honor individuals who give steadfast witness to the Biblical Christian teaching on the sanctity of life.

“Michael Schwartz has been fighting for the unborn since the beginning of this battle, holding various positions both with pro-life organizations, such as the Catholic League and Concerned Women for America, and on the staff of key pro-life advocates in the federal government. He is a valued strategic thinker in our movement,” Father Pavone said.

“Reggie leads an international coalition that fights human trafficking and sexual slavery around the world,” Father Pavone said. “She works to end to China’s forced abortion policy and to expose violations of women’s rights everywhere. She was the one who first brought to the attention of many pro-life leaders and other Americans the plight of Chen Guangcheng, who was imprisoned and tortured in China for his opposition to forced abortion.”

The National Memorial for the Pre-Born will occur on the morning of the March for Life, and is open to the public. DAR Constitution Hall is at 1776 D Street Northwest, Washington, D.C.

The 2013 service will commemorate 40 years since Roe v. Wade legalized abortion, and will include a memorial for Nellie Gray, who founded the March for Life in 1974 and remained its leader until her death in August of 2012.

WRWF’s Reggie Littlejohn Honors Chen Guangcheng Receives “Spirit of Tiananmen” Award

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Reggie Littlejohn spoke at the Commemoration of the 23rd Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, hosted by the Visual Artists Guild of Los Angeles. Speaking in honor of Chen Guangcheng, she then found to her surprise that she was the recipient of the coveted “Spirit of Tiananmen” Award. Here are her remarks:

I am greatly humbled to speak to you in honor of one of the greatest and most noble heroes of our time – one of the human rights giants of the twenty-first century, the Gandhi of China — activist Chen Guangcheng. Blinded by a childhood illness, Chen taught himself law and at first advocated for the rights of the disabled. The Chinese Communist Party ignored him until he began to advocate for the rights of women who were victims of the massive, systematic use of forced abortion and sterilization in his city – Linyi. Chen bravely filed a class action lawsuit on their behalf, and that’s when all hell broke loose for him and his family. It is fitting that we should honor him on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. The same brutal regime that massacred students on Tiananmen Square also has brutalized Chen and his family for seven years.

Here is our video, Free Chen Guangcheng!

Chen miraculously escaped from illegal house detention. Chen has no religious affiliation, yet he said, “God rescued me.” I have been advocating for Chen’s release since 2008 – five times in the U.S. Congress, twice at the European Parliament, and at the British and Irish Parliaments as well. I have also briefed the White House, State Department and Vatican about Chen and One Child Policy issues.

China: Woman forcibly aborted at 7 months, dead baby placed next to her

By Women’s Rights without Frontiers

(Shanxi Province, China) – Women’s Rights Without Frontiers has learned that a woman was forcibly aborted at seven months of pregnancy on June 3, 2012. According to an internet report, the woman, Feng Jianmei, was beaten and dragged into a vehicle by a group of Family Planning Officials while her husband, Deng Jiyuan, was out working. The officials asked for RMB 40,000 in fines from Feng Jianmei’s family. When they did not receive the money, they forcibly aborted Jianmei at seven months, laying the body of her aborted baby next to her in the bed. The woman is under medical treatment in Ankang City, Zhenpin County, Zengjia Town, Yupin village.

Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, stated, “This is an outrage. No legitimate government would commit or tolerate such an act. Those who are responsible should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. WRWF calls on the United States government and the leaders of the free world to strongly condemn forced abortion and all coercive family planning in China.”

(Women’s Rights Without Frontiers) - Chen Guangcheng and his family are on their way to Newark, NJ, bringing to an end to sensitive and sometimes strained negotiations between the United States government and the Chinese Communist Party concerning the blind activist.

This momentous occasion is likely bittersweet for Chen, who may look forward to freedom in the US while worrying about reprisals against his family in China.

Women’s Rights Without Frontiers has been leading the international coalition to free Chen since president Reggie Littlejohn first testified concerning Chen at the European Parliament in 2008. She stated, ”This is the moment we’ve been working for, waiting for and praying for, for years. I can hardly believe it has finally arrived.” Littlejohn is flying to Newark to greet Chen and his family. On the way to the airport she stated, “I want to thank everyone who has helped bring about this victory: the State Department, Congressman Chris Smith, actor Christian Bale, the many thousands from all over the the world who signed our Free Chen petition and who participated in the international Sunglasses campaign. Most of all, I would like to thank the many courageous citizens of China who have been beaten and detained because of their support for Chen. They are real heroes.”

She added, “We will continue to monitor and advocate for Chen’s family and friends who remain in China, especially his nephew, Chen Kegui, who has wrongfully been accused of attempted murder when thugs attacked him and his family in their own home.”

Blind Forced Abortion Opponent Chen Guangcheng Has Escaped House Detention!

CHINA – Chen Guangcheng has escaped house arrest and is safely in Beijing. Conflicting reports exist concerning whether he is at the U.S. Embassy.

While Chen is safe, his family is not. His wife, mother, daughter and son are still in Linyi. Moreover, his brother and possibly other extended family members have been beaten and detained.

In addition, He Peirong, who helped Chen escape and drove him to Beijing, was detained Thursday. As of this writing, WRWF has not received word that she has been released.

Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, said, “We are thrilled that Chen Guangcheng has escaped house arrest, but are very concerned for the safety of his family. We call upon Secretary of State Hillary Clinton specifically to raise Chen’s case during her visit to Beijing May 3-4. Indeed, we call upon the entire international diplomatic community to make urgent, official interventions on behalf of Chen with the Chinese government. We call upon NGOs and concerned citizens the world over strongly to support this great hero during his hour of need.”

Littlejohn continued: “We are also concerned about the detention of He Peirong, who is a hero for the brave role she played in helping Chen escape. She knew that this courageous act might cost her her freedom, and yet she risked everything to help Chen. Now, we need to help her.”

(By Royce Hood) - As many MariaNews.com readers know, last Saturday I helped organize the Law of Life Summit in Washington, D.C.. The event brought together pro-life leaders and law students to discuss ways we can combat abortion in the United States. Specifically our goal is to eventually overturn Roe v. Wade or render it irrelevant through measurable and achievable objectives (objectives to be released soon).

At the Summit, Reggie Littlejohn, founder of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, was one of our many Distinguished Guests. Reggie’s focus is on forced abortion in China. This is a extremely important issue that is going to have a world-wide impact in the coming years. Basically girls are aborted at a much higher rate than boys and this is creating an extreme imbalance in the Chinese culture. (Not to mention the pain that this evil causes millions of people in China)

Anyway, Reggie Littlejohn should be commended on her fine work. Please visit her website to learn more about the issue of forced abortions in China, and about what you can do to help. www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org

I saw more than ten men surrounded Chen Guangcheng, torturing him...

(June 16, 2011 – Linyi, Shandong) In a letter released by China Aid yesterday, the wife of blind activist Chen Guangcheng tells the story of their torture under house arrest. Yuan Weijing writes:

They beat and tortured my husband Chen Guangcheng and me for more than 2 hours . . . More than 10 men covered me totally with a blanket and kicked my ribs and all over my body . . . I saw more than ten men surrounded Chen Guangcheng, torturing him. Some of them twisted his arms forcefully while the others were pushing his head down and lifting his collar up tightly.

Yuan’s letter also states that the police sealed their windows with sheets of metal, seized their computer, confiscated their books, stole Chen’s blind cane, and grabbed toys belonging to their young daughter. Further, Chen has been denied medical treatment and his health is in jeopardy. Yuan’s letter ends with a plea for legal action to protect her family. The full text of her letter is below.

Why is the Chinese Communist Party determined to crush Chen? The CCP wants the world to think that its One Child Policy is voluntary. Chen, however, exposed the systematic use of forced abortion and involuntary sterilization in implementing this policy. Time Magazine named him in its list of “2006’s Top 100 People Who Shape Our World.” The Chinese Communist Party, however, handed him a four year jail sentence. His family has been languishing under house arrest since his release in October, 2010.

Chen Guangcheng is the “Tank Man” against China’s One Child Policy.

Impoverished, beaten and blind, Chen nevertheless possesses the surpassing backbone to stand alone against the grinding juggernaut of this totalitarian regime. The CCP apparently perceives in Chen a real threat to its crumbling legitimacy.

In pressing for justice for Chen and his family, let us not forget those for whom he has sacrificed his freedom: the families of China who are being shattered daily by forced abortion, forced sterilization and infanticide. The coercive enforcement of China’s One Child Policy causes more violence against women and girls than any other official policy on earth. It is the greatest women’s rights issue in the world today. No one supports forced abortion, because it is not a choice.

Women’s Rights Without Frontiers condemns the house arrest of Chen and his family and

they are demanding their immediate release and… Click Here to read more!
