A Georgia worker is now suing his employer after he refused to wear a 666 sticker that he says represented the Mark of the Beast in Revelations. Billy E. Hyatt is suing on grounds of religious discrimination. The sticker he was asked to wear represents the number of days the plant had been accident free.

We all take as a given that the goal of Christianity is entering into eternal life; however, attaining this goal requires intense daily effort on our part. The spiritual life is not an easy endeavor because of our wounded human nature. True, Baptism washes away Original Sin, but we are left with the effects of Original Sin. We do not have complete control over ourselves. The spiritual life is a continual battle.

What is novel about the City of Man we have ushered in is its idiosyncratic nature. It is not really a republic, or a democracy, or even a republican democracy or a democratic republic. It is an idiocracy. To have a democracy, you must have a people, a demos. To have a republic, there must be a public thing, a res publica, a common good that is being protected or promoted.
