It takes roughly 10 years to make a qualified doctor. It’s just a matter of math to say there won’t be enough doctors to take care of the additional 30 million Americans by 2014. For many, coverage will not necessarily translate into care: There are not enough doctors for Americans now.

It became official yesterday. As the US Supreme Court upheld the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, the Catholic church now faces its greatest, most fundamental threat in modern American history. And although many Catholics continue to support President Obama, it is probably because they do not understand the implications of the ruling and Obama’s battle royale with the Catholic church.

With the decision that Obamacare will stand as the law of the land means that America – home of the brave, land of the free – is no more. This great country, the one to whom all great refugee movements of the world for over two centuries saw as the light to escape poverty, political bondage, and hopelessness now turns its back on that legacy of freedom for what will, in a very short time, amount a bowl of pottage. The turn to tyranny won’t happen overnight and it won’t be recognized as tyranny – not at first anyway. But as freedom gets chipped away the straight jacket gets tighter and then hardens to envelop the mind like a steel casket.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced that the federal government is now “at war” with those who disagree with the HHS. We did not choose or desire such a war: but our government has unilaterally imposed war on all citizens who disagree with this Mandate, including Catholics who strive to help others. This violation of our religious liberty and freedom of conscience has been deemed “necessary,” so as to ensure that every citizen has access to abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception.

The Supreme Court will shortly render its decision on the constitutionality of the Obama health care plan. One thing is for certain – no matter what the high court decides, the most ardent supporters and most ardent opponents of “Obamacare” are sure to spring into action.
