Therefore, I ask, “election, what election?” Not meaning that I do not pay attention to who is the President of America. Rather, meaning that it is not the results of an election that determine whether I have hope in the mercy of Christ.

The Church has a multi-faceted identity. It is the Mystical Body of Christ because Jesus promised that he would remain united with us. He said, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him (John 6:54). He compared our union with him as fruitful branches united to him, the True Vine (John 15:5).

St. Luke still “sends his greetings” through his sons and daughters who carry on his noble profession today. They follow, as he did so well, in the footsteps of great Physician, the Lord Jesus Christ. To all Christian Doctors, thank you. Stand firm in the faith and “be not afraid”!

There is a Latin maxim that addresses the centrality of worship in the life, identity and mission of the Catholic Church; “Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi”. The phrase in Latin literally means the law of prayer (“the way we worship”), and the law of belief (“what we believe”).

Jesus comes to live in all who make a place for Him within the center of their lives. This “making a place” is the essence of Christian prayer. It is not about doing, but about being. The Lord wants us to freely choose to respond to His continual invitations to love. We will only find our fulfillment as human persons by entering into that kind of relationship. This is the meaning and purpose of life itself.
